I had the opportunity to be a part of Seva Cafe, the event held during Monsoon Musings 2019. My team and I were assigned to make Bruschetta and serve it to people. Through this experience, I got to reach people’s hearts through the best way–their stomach.Â
LO1 : I have always enjoyed cooking for myself or my family at home, so I was at least remotely confident of my skills in cooking. But this was the first time for me cooking outside of my home. So I had the chance to develop my skills outside of my safezone, and do that in collaboration of a team as well.Â
LO2 : This was the first time that I had attempted to cook for a large crowd. I had to meet the challenge of trying new things, and also overcome my fear of failure. A few of our team members had bailed from the start, and hence most of the responsibility of successfully carrying out this plan had laid on my and my two fellow teammates’ shoulders. Even while facing this challenge, we managed to thrive under pressure, and also received many positive reviews for our food.
LO4 : I showed perseverance and commitment for this event by distributing the amount and type of ingredients among my team members. I also showed up on time, and diligently helped my team members in making the food. Even without the support of two of our members, we fared fairly and showed commitment to our task instead of abandoning it.
LO5 : Teamwork was a huge part of why our event was successful. Without the support me and my teammates showed each other, it would have been very difficult carrying out this task. By understanding and coordinating with each other, we were able to complete the task efficiently and quickly. When was tired, the other was ready to take her place–as seen from that, we could strengthen our bonds, and also achieve the task without many hinders.
LO6 : The global issue focused in this task was good health and well being, as food is a very important part of that issue. By using organic materials and hygienic practises, we contributed positively to that issue.
The money that we gathered by selling our food items was given to charity. Seva cafe was a hidden gem among a cave of coal, and by taking part in this, I not only got to improve my collaborative and cooking skills, but also grow as a person.
