Initially, I decided to host a football tournament with three of my friends, but due to lockdown, we were unable to host it. So we decided to open a home bakery to help people with the profit earned. This project lasted for over a month.
LO 1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
I was never into cooking, but seeing a lot of people cook in this lockdown, I gave it a shot. I made a lot of dishes during the lockdown, which made me eligible to take orders for any of the dishes cascakes was selling. I was also handling our social media platform, posting pictures and taking orders through Instagram.
LO 2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken in developing new skills.
As I was instructed to do a lot of things, taking & making orders and posting pictures, it was a lot of work, so I took the help of my mother. Sometimes she helped me in baking, and it became very easy for me. My mother didn’t know on which setting the oven should be so we did video calls and helped each other. Due to the lockdown, we were unable to meet and bake together, so we had to talk through messages and video calls, and all of had different schedules so we had to choose a time where all of us could talk and show the progress has done which was difficult.
LO 3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
As this project required a lot of planning, we use to do video calls often to discuss things like our menu or what each person would bake. We also had to plan our budget and the prices of each of the items and the ingredients, marketing strategies and our menu according to the audience. The planning helped us as we had a layout of what everything would be like, and this made out tasks easy.
LO 4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
We started the planning in June, and the motive behind this project was to help people during this strict timings by giving them sanitizers and face masks, as meeting physically was not possible we managed it with video calls as there was no other option. To meet the customers demands we had to keep trying new flavours and new dishes and new designs also.
LO 5- Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively
As we were a team this task became very easy to execute. Helping in the team helped us in a lot of ways as we built trust, friendship and also learned a lot of how important it is to work as a team.
LO 6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The global issues that were applicable were good health and well being and clean water and sanitization. With the profit earned, we bought face masks, hand sanitizers, gloves and other supplies to help the needy stay protected in this pandemic.
LO 7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
As plastic is non-renewable we use a renewable alternative like paper. And also we tried to reduce the wastage in baking.
All in all, the CAS project was an excellent experience for all of us. It brought all of us closer than we were and presented itself as an opportunity for us to learn many new things!
