Cricket Tournament(CAS Project)

During the lockdown I noticed that the residents in my neighbourhood had been feeling a little down and bored so to make everyone happy during a sad time, Pravar and I decided to host a cricket tournament in my neighbourhood. We collected the entry fees on 16th August and had the event scheduled on the 27th of September so as to adhere to the laws imposed by the government.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

When Pravar and I started planning, for the CAS Project, it started to come to my attention that mangement was one of my stronger suits. I was able to plan the project effectively while managing the participant and on the day of the event I was responsible to be the umpire from which I learnt that I was good with mangement skills, Moreover, I lacked time management as I had to constantly check on the status of the proposed event but sometimes I used to forget it as I had my academic tasks pending. However at the end we pulled through and made the event a huge success.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills in the process

The tournament organisation was a difficult task to accomplish as there were many permissions that were need to be taken care of before organising the event in my neighbourhood. We became more adapt at problem solving and the constant iteration with the participants and their queries made our communication skills better. Moreover, we had to better creative enough o persuade people to play and to also be as effective as possible to make the best use of the environment we had. We had to come up with ideas to increase the area to play as we were playing on the road and so we had to make rules according to that which showed that creativity was very essential during the whole process . However, the biggest difficulty was to convince people that we had taken all the safety precautions as everyone were scared of being infected , However we made sure that safety was handed with utmost care.

LO3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

A cricket tournament was difficult to plan since most turfs were closed down due to the pandemic. Moreover Pravar and i could not meet in person during the planning stage which increased the complexity of the planning the event . We had to make decisions on calls and make plans accordingly. We had a lot of tasks so we divided tasks to our comfort. Pravar was handling the posters and I was tasked with getting permissions and gathering players.

LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Pravar was not able to come to help me gather plans or for permissions, this increased the load I had to carry. I was quite exhausting to go down to everyones place and then explaining to same thing over and over again, we also had to wait for about a month after collecting the entry fees as we had to finalise a date were everyone was available and none of the participants had travelled to another city in the interval of 14 days prior to the event for safety measures. This created a lot of ruckus from the participant and handling them was difficult but we managed it and our commitment for the success made it all happen.

LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

We had over 30 participants and thus collaboration was necessary, if Pravar an I were not working together effectively then we would have faced many challenges which I think would not have been accomplished given the current pandemic times. The struggle we had faced while working together made us question what it would have been if we were doing this alone, it also taught us that no matter the complexity of the task, an effective team strategy would always make things easier.

LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

WE made sure that we follow SDGs for our project which were good health and well-being. We made sure that the event was safe for participants so that the community as a whole would not be affected, moreover we provided water in thermoses and avoided plastic. We also donated the profits we made to the PM health care fund. As during the pandemic many people have suffered and these funds would help in providing them health care.

LO7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

We chose to be the umpires as we were the hosts and we wanted the event to be as fair as possible so that the teams would have a nice time and it would not hurt the participants feelings, we also throughly checked the safety precautions as to not put the participants lives in danger as an event during the pandemic. We also followed the laws made by the government for social distancing and thus planned the event later on when it was allowed by the government.
