SYMUN x MERAMUN

I took part in SYMUN x MERAMUN organized at AURO University, Surat from 23/8/2019 to 25/8/2019. MUN allows its participants to learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. I registered myself for the Lok Sabha committee and was representing Rahul Gandhi, INC in the Lok Sabha. The goals I wanted to achieve included better communication and oratory skills and synergy. Additionally, I also aimed at deepening my knowledge in regard to Indian politics and the Indian lower house of the parliament.

Learning Outcomes Achieved:

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

The area that I Identified i needed to develop was communication and oration. I needed to explore techniques that would allow me pressing my point forward in the most effective way that would make my points convincing. I needed to work extensively on it because I knew I had stage fear. The identification helped me in representing myself as a strong delegate in order to convince the committee to agree to my points, and get the most benefit out of this event

LO2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Undertaking this challenge was of vital importance not only in the MUN, but even during other events where i needed to put points in front of an audience which included classroom presentations, Interviews at internships and could even help in college interviews. I learnt skills that help an orator make the speech utmost engaging and also learnt the need to adapt to different reactions by the listeners.

LO3 : Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

I had a fair idea of how the MUN conference would be held and accordingly I needed to do effective research so that I would have enough points in my speech in order for other delegates and the chairs to get convinced. I had made a document with all my research work and flow of my speech which ensured that I cover all the points that were necessary to be delivered. I feel after this event, planning for school presentations and interviews can be a little less of a burden because I found out ways to plan for presentations which are critical later.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

There were various sessions in the MUN which called for a collective discussion from the representative of each political party. It was important to know how to work collaboratively to ensure that quality points are covered which every delegate has got after their research. This is a great example of the delegation which allows every delegate to research effectively and combine the research.
