I conducted AutoCad software classes in school for 4 sessions. A software that is used to create architectural plans for houses/offices as well as 3D products etc.
This experience portrayed my learning and helping out students who might need it for their DT internal assessments. While teaching them the basic concepts of the software I brushed through my skills of using the software. In return, I learned how to conduct a class and improved my presentation skills. Some of the challenges I faced during these sessions was building patience while other students were learning as well as try and make the learning environment fun for them. Although, in the end, I was successfully able to make them learn certain basic commands and make a furnished plan.
L1 Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
During the sessions, I could identify my own strengths such as explaining and managing decorum, but also reflecting on the feedback they gave me after each session for ex.pace was a little fast for which I and my partner worked upon. I would like to work a little more on my pace as well as my communicating skills. I felt utter satisfaction when I was done with the sessions because I felt I did a decent job and taught people skills that will be helpful to them in the future.
L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills
There were certain new skills that I established from taking these sessions which included observing and listening to others so that I understand them well, I faced a challenge of listening and understanding everyone’s pace during the sessions. The session was for 4 days and I had to make sure each and everyone was with me, as this was not an easy skill to acquire. Although, I made sure I kept taking doubts in between to ensure each and everyone is clear with the commands I was teaching them. The skills I learned the most were communication and presenting skills which I think are very important for my further growth in life.
L3- initiate and plan a CAS experience
My partner and I planned how much we were going to teach and kept a sample plan ready for students as an example. We made detailed architecture plans ready to demonstrate as well as pre-planned the CAD drawing we were going to teach through the commands that are necessary for out IA later. I did plan other events before so I was aware of the planning that went behind and we were very thorough with the plans beforehand.
L5 Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively,
Making a CAS project successful one needs to work collaboratively in order to get the work done on time, we collaboratively divided work according to our skills in which we had an advantage on which made our work very easy. I was more similar to certain commands than my partner and she was something else that led us to coordinate our skills, and in this case, it was very important for us to work collaboratively other this would turn out a disaster in front of each other. we had our differences at the beginning upon our ideas and plans but we figured a way to fit both of our plans into one.
The learner profile that was evidently seen was knowledgeable and communicators as teaching required an easy form of communication for students in order for them to learn efficiently, moreover knowledgeable as I portrayed my learning practically during teaching them how to use the software. To conclude this experience was a two-way learning path for me and the students which taught me to be more confident and manage the class well and that gave me a sense of satisfaction.
