Global Odyssey 2.O

Global Odyssey a student-led event, conducted on 5 February 2020.We students of Business Management and Economics were informed to lead the event-flea market. The event was mainly organized so that we use our book knowledge in real life and experience the ups and downs of a business. This event was divided into 3 parts- food, fashion and fun.For this event I was appointed as the Food team leader. We were told to come up with various kind of dishes from different continents or countries as the event was all about globalization. From the money earned by us in the event,10% of our profit was going to be donated for the betterment of our community by the school.

The learning outcome covered in this experience are LO1 LO2 LO3 LO4 LO5  LO7

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Food so this is something i am personally interested because I am good at cooking and I am also a foody person so i was able to manage the food items which i had selected. The only difficulty we as a group faced was dealing with large amount of crowd coming towards the stall(approximately 20 to 30 people came to together) though we had 5 to 6 people in one stall for serving we couldn’t manage the crowd. Then gradually we succeeded in doing so.This event also helped to improve on my communication skills and I was also able to create a bond with my fellow team members. This event even made me realize that I have good leadership skills.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

The food for the whole occasion was to be organized by us so we had too much of pressure upon us.So we started of with the food menu and the allocation of people with it,this became time consuming because we were 4 team leader so keeping everybody’s perspective in mind we had to proceed and then school food policy was also to be followed. Allotting the food to our fellow team members was also challenging for us as they had to make all the food at home or outsource it in bulk.We also had to make sure that the pricing were low and competitive.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

As seen above we faced many difficulties in deciding the dishes so we then asked the supervisor for help and our other team member also.We then also had to assign work to the other team member as per their capability.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Since the supervisor of the event had appointed me as the team leader I had to come early to school,sometime-for the team leader meetings where we shared our ideas and worked upon them.We even had to meet outside school for more discussion also.I also helped others to serve after my work was done for the day.Rather than doing only food work I also helped the decoration and marketing team when they needed help.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

This event was all about teamwork as without teams the event would not be successful. As specially in food we needed a good team which listens to the instruction properly and bring their items properly on the final day, without a team it would not be possible for us to put these many items on the table (in bulk).Overall it taught me how to handle these many people all together and even helped me to polish my communicating skills.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

The most important outcome is this because in business it is important to be ethical with the consumers and our team members. In all ways we were ethical ,whether it is about pricing or about selling. We remained hygienic while serving the food and even at home while cooking the food-health of our customer is most important. We also had decided not to use plastic as far as possible.

Lastly I learned alot from this experience of mine and also learned to applied the book knowledge in real life.
