Guitar Classes (Music)

Creativity had also been my weak spot since childhood as I was more inclined towards physical activities. Joining guitar classes gave me an opportunity to learn something new. CAS gave this opportunity to me which I was grateful for as it helped me develop many skills and become a diverse person. I always had a dream to learn songs that I like and play by myself which I was able to achieve after learning guitar. The learning outcomes that I achieved are LO 1, LO 2, LO 3 and LO 4.

LO 1-Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Pondering on my strengths, I was able to learn songs and play guitar reasonably quicker as I had better control over my fingers. My dedication to learning was also a strength for me as I always wanted to play songs and that became a driving force for me. Coming to my weaknesses, I was very shy as it was something new for me so I would always play songs with others and not solo as I was afraid that others would criticize me. I also had stage fear as I always felt that if I made mistakes while playing everyone would know and it would sound bad but now after months of learning I feel I have improved a lot as I have gained confidence in myself and started playing better.

LO 2-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Learning guitar was a new challenge for me as I had no skills to play and become very frustrated when things were not going well. First of all the journey from me starting to learn guitar and actually learning songs was very long. That wait gave rise to instances where I wanted to quit learning but I continued so that one day I would achieve my dream. I didn’t quit and that is what matters and this has made me more confident in life.

LO 3-Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Considering the fact that I went for SAT coaching every day and also basketball classes 3 a week, my parents were against my wish to join guitar classes. They felt that it would hamper my studies and it would become very exhausting for me. So I had to prove to them that I could do it. For that, I made a timetable and scheduled all my classes. I tried to manage my time in a way that I did not compromise my studies, as well as do what I wanted to learn. Here my time management skills can into use. My bucket loads of tries, at last, proved my parents that I could do it and they allowed me to join classes.

LO 4-Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

As I mentioned earlier, the journey was very long and frustrating but I kept on continuing as I knew that the end product was always going to be great and I would miss classes sometimes due to submissions and tests but the consistency of attending classes is what helped me learn guitar in a better way.

To conclude, learning guitar has been a bumpy ride where there have been instances which drove me towards the end and some which were quitters but learning this new art has helped me become more skillful and at the end that is what matters.
