Football

Football is a sport that has helped me train both mentally and physically. It has helped me improve my concentration along with endurance and strength. The sport requires quick thinking and strong teamwork skills in order to win. At my school, I played the defence position.

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through the game I discovered that I had a good endurance level that was required for the game, however, I lacked in the speed aspect of the sport. Through, the guidance of my coach, I was able to complete rigorous speed training sessions. It was difficult to gain control of the ball when it was in control of the opponent, however, I always attempted to chase the ball till the very end and motivated myself to push my limits.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Teamwork is the most important aspect of the sport as one cannot simply score a goal without any assistance. Strong teamwork skills ensured that all the players held their positions clearly and were able to quickly respond to the opponent’s strategy. At the beginning of practice sessions, the team was not able to communicate properly and this caused the frequent loss of control and fights. However, with several team skills improving sessions such as 3 on 1 exercise, the team was able to play in sync.

LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

The sport quickly and easily drains energy levels on an individual. Practice sessions were usually in the morning and by the end, it was almost impossible to move your limbs. This was kind of a deal-breaker for me as this prevented me from concentrating on my studies. I wondered about quitting the sport several times, however, after many practise sessions, I learnt how I could successfully balance both my studies and football. This experience helped me strengthen my commitment towards the sport.
