CAS Project

Our CAS Project was teaching students of lower grades to make biodegradable pencils, which once used could be planted. We conducted this activity with students of grade 1 & 2 as well as taught students of grade 4 and 5 during the event of Creative Mela to make biodegradable pens. The CAS Project allowed each of our group members to utilize their skills and achieve the best possible results. I was in charge of making a presentation as well as teaching the students to make the pencils.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Each of our group members had different skills and areas where everyone could specialize. I had good creativity skills as well as the skills required to create a presentation for better communication. It was great that we all could Identify the skills that I had which allowed the leader to delegate tasks which can utilize my skills for better efficiency and productivity

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

One of the biggest challenges I faced was time management because the CAS Project demanded a lot of time, especially considering that I had the responsibility of a couple of things. However, to ensure that I gave valuable input for the functioning of the group, I needed to complete the tasks assigned to me. This allowed me to develop my time management skills further

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

The stage from the development of the Idea, approving it and the execution all needed significant planning in order to ensure that no tasks were left out and work efficiently. I needed to plan what was to be supposed to be done during sessions conducted with grade 1 & 2 students, from the flow of the presentation till the demo’s of making the pencils and guiding the students to make their own.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience

For grade 1 and 2 students, we needed to come early in school and which was very challenging but considering that my role was very important for conducting the sessions, I knew I could not miss the sessions and had to appear for them.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working as a team helped us a lot in many different ways. It helped us to bring in different skills for our CAS project. Teamwork helps solve problems. Collaboration within our group helped us to solve difficult problems. Brainstorming is a good opportunity for our team to exchange ideas and come up with creative ways of doing things. By working together, we can find solutions that work best.

Teamwork ensures that deadlines are met and that there’s high-quality work. When one team member falls behind, there’s another to pick up the pieces. When work is divided up among the members of our team, it gets done faster, making the overall CAS project operate more efficiently. Our team developed a sense of comradery as you work toward a common goal.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Global issues that the CAS project catered were Climate Action and Life on Land. Our project helped the youth to gain awareness about reducing waste, recycling it, and reusing it. We also spread awareness about the importance of trees in our society

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Throughout the project, It was very important to remain ethical. Firstly, we needed to remain ethical in terms of the content we deliver to students. The knowledge should be correct and should not be misleading for the students. Secondly, we needed to ensure that the resources we used were reused or recycled and not new to ensure we come in line with our aim. The resources we used needed to be biodegradable and does not harm the environment, or else it would work against the main aim of our CAS Project .For using the best resources at the lowest possible cost, considerable research was conducted.
