Global odyssey was an event conducted in my school as an integration of business management. This consisted of various stalls with different products and food items, however, I was a singer of the event band. I performed 3 songs, twice each throughout the event as different audiences arrived at the venue. This experience was entirely new to me as I never actually sang in front of a crowd before. In this experience, I exhibited :
LO2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
I learned vocals when I was a kid from the school itself, however, it was for just a single year and I never actually performed something. However, as the band needed a singer, I volunteered because I had some experience in the field whereas no one else did. However, I had to train really hard to get the right tone and tune to match the chords and it was sometimes really challenging to get the perfect sound. However, with consistent attempts, I was able to get the right sound and performed well in front of the crowd, receiving a good response in the first attempt.
LO3 : Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
It was crucial to organize myself while singing with all the equipment, wires and mics so that there are no other disturbances in my performance. It was also important to plan the flow of music and vocals in the different songs and to memorize the lyrics.
LO4 : Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
The first few attempts at practising the songs were terrible as I could not get my tune and timing right, but with constantly listening to the original music and vocals and practicing in getting the same sound, slowly I got better. This required a lot of commitment as there were a lot of band practises wherein I had to perform my best so that my bandmates understood how the final song would sound like.
LO5 : Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Working collaboratively was extremely important to get the right sound at the right time. This required a lot of communication and coordination so that the music is flawlessly synchronized and the harmony is correct.
Overall, this experience was new to me and hence challenging, but equally exciting. I demonstrated the learner profile attributes reflective and open-minded as I reflected upon my own tune and timing and recognized areas of improvement and was also a good listener if someone else commented upon my performances.
