Baking for underprivileged children

My mom is a professional baker and I wanted to learn about it too. So I asked her and she has been helping me with recipes. She has taught me recipes for brownies and cupcakes of different flavors. When I made a batch of cupcakes I decided to give those to the underprivileged.

LO1 Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I was good at cooking and learnt many new recipes, but I never knew anything about cupcakes and brownies. I asked my mom whether she could teach me to make brownies and cupcakes and she said yes. So I learnt slowly and made a perfect batch after 1-2 months of weekly practice.

LO2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

I knew nothing about baking. However, I wanted to learn and my mom was ready to teach me. She started by talking to me about the basics. She said I need to put accurate amounts of ingredients or I will mess up my whole batch. So listening to her advice I tried to put the exact amount required not more not less and was able to bake good cupcakes, but they weren’t the best because I left them in the oven for too long. Nonetheless, I learned my lesson and was on my toes when baking the second batch.

LO3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

As written above I was interested and reasonably good in cooking. Hence I wanted to learn something new. During the nationwide lockdown I had the time to do so. I had to stay home and my mom did not take orders so we both were free. I planned a date with her where she taught me how to make cupcakes.

LO6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Firstly, during this crisis many families are going hungry and so I decided to give it to some underprivileged children. Secondly, I did not use a plastic bag or a plastic wrap inthe cupcake to give the underprivileged I gave them all in recyclable materials.

LO7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

After the cupcakes were ready I had to give them to underprivileged children, now I had many plastic bags but I bought a cloth bag to give it to them. I knew that they might eat the cupcakes and throw the bag so I gave them a cloth bag which could be reused easily.
