Dance classes ran by me.

I love Dancing and so I decided to begin my own class for dance. I discussed the whole idea with my friend and she loved it and we both planned to run it together. As we live in a society with many kids, we decided to conduct the classes in society itself on the main terrace. For this, we had to take permission from the secretary, make posters so that everyone can know and also we went to each flat and made the announcement for the same. This idea went successful and it was fun.

Learning Outcomes Achieved:

  • Learning outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I know that I love dancing which is my strength and therefore what I had to do was to develop my skills in it. As I had to teach younger kids, we had to prepare the dance prior to the class. Therefore it helped me in improving my choreography and understanding of the song, how to match the steps and the lyrics of the song and because it was for kids, I had to make sure that the steps are a bit easy and comfortable for the kids to do. Also if any step was hard for the kids, we had to change it on the spot therefore it helped in developing my thinking skills and I had to think of the steps on the spot and teach them to kids.

  • Learning outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

This was my first time teaching kids, dance. Therefore it was a big challenge for me as teaching something is a difficult job because it needs good communication skills and proper knowledge. I took this challenge and developed my own knowledge and understanding of dance and communicating skills.

  • Learning outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

This whole idea of running a dance class was totally planned and Initiated by my friend Urja and me, and for this, we had to plan many things such as timings, permission for the classes and also plan what do we have to teach them.

  • Learning outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

As this was a long term experience, I had to be committed and persistent to it because if I have taken any responsibility, it is my duty to be committed and persistent to it. I made sure that I conducted the classes regularly and didn’t miss any but if due to some circumstances, I had to cancel any, then I use to cover that time later. I had covered my work in other sessions by teaching more to the kids.

  • Learning outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

As we were 2 members in total for teaching dance, communication and collaboration were must so that the whole session goes smoothly and there are no misunderstandings or arguments with ourselves. Urja and I being the senior-most, had the most responsibility and therefore we planned how we can work together and divide the job amongst both of us. This is how we worked collaboratively and recognized that it helps in making the work easier.

  • Learning outcome 7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

While Teaching dance to the kids, we had to be ethical and keep our choices of action in mind. This includes that we don’t shout or scold the kids and behave well with them and also we do not do any discrimination amongst them.
