Cricket tournament (CAS Project)

After the COVID-19 lockdown, it was observed in my friend’s society that everyone was bored and wanted to do something interesting and physical. We took this opportunity to host a cricket tournament for the whole society where the winners would get cash prizes and the entire profit will be donated to the PM care fund. We planned this tournament. I made posters and Dev organized permission to play it in society. The event took place on 27 September after almost 2 months to organize the event. We had to make creative use of the space and decide rules before starting the tournament.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I had already designed posters for a CAS activity before and I discovered I was good at it. Hence, I took the opportunity and asked him if I could make the posters, he agreed. I made the posters and saw I could get better by using different colors to attract more people.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills in the process

The organization of this tournament was a bit difficult. The space was a bit less than a normal turf. Hence, we had to get creative with the rules. We had to persuade people to get interested in this event, and hence our communication skills got better.

LO3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

A cricket tournament was difficult to plan since ost turfs were closed down due to the pandemic. It was challenging to communicate since we could not meet face to face. We had to take decisions on calls and make plans accordingly. We had a lot of tasks so we divided tasks to our comfort. I was tasked to make the posters and Dev was tasked with getting permissions and gathering players.

LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

It was very difficult not knowing what was going on since I was at my home when Dev was working in his society. I was a bit tired of continuously calling and asking if all was going according to plan. After some time I wanted to quit but I also wanted to see this tournament succeed. Hence, I worked with my communication skills and it helped us create a better event.

LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

The tournament would have been a complete disaster if it was not for us communicating effectively. We had to make sure that both of our task has been done. There were 30 plus people participating and it would have been impossible for either one us to manage all of them alone.

LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

We provide water to the participants but not in the form of plastic water but in a thermos. Adding to that all the profits we made were donated to the PM health care fund. These funds might help with healthcare of different people.

LO7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

The day the tournament was organized we had to be the umpires. As an umpire, we had to be fair and never biased towards one team which could hurt others’ feelings. This event had a cash prize at stake so we decided to be as fair as possible and try to give the award to only the deserving.
